We are seeking a Principal ICA Engineering to join our Design & Advanced Technology Practice within AtkinsRéalis. You will play a leading role in delivering cutting edge projects for UK water market clients, including Thames Water, Anglian Water, South East Water, Southern Water, and other regional water authorities.

\n

As a key member of our team, you will contribute to transformational programmes for critical UK infrastructure, with opportunities to work on landmark projects domestically and internationally. We are committed to providing industry‑leading solutions throughout the project lifecycle, with client‑side and construction‑phase support.

As a Principal ICA Engineer in the D&AT practice, responsibilities include:

    \n
  • Coordinate or manage a team of Electrical & ICA engineers for delivery of technical design work on complex multi‑disciplinary projects, following client and project design codes and standards to high quality levels.
  • \n
  • Manage time and budgets of the Electrical & ICA team to key project milestones and programmes.
  • \n
  • Lead and produce technical deliverables such as Single Line Diagrams, Cable Block Diagrams, Load Schedules, MCC specifications, Control Philosophies and Control Network Architecture.
  • \n
  • Provide technical input into ICA design deliverables and work with the project management team to manage time and budgets to milestones.
  • \n
  • Collaborate with client, operational, project, or service activities within the immediate team and other AtkinsRéalis teams.
  • \n
  • Mentor less experienced colleagues and help grow the Electrical & ICA capabilities within the local team and wider network.
  • \n
  • Work independently with minimal technical guidance; exercise judgement to solve difficult problems and guide junior team members.
  • \n
  • Provide technical support for bid proposals.
  • \n
  • Work with multi‑disciplinary teams in the UK and overseas to deliver integrated design solutions.
  • \n
  • Adhere to quality assurance standards in design, including check and review of your own work and others’.
  • \n
  • Contribute to business development to drive growth of the water market.
  • \n
About you\n
    \n
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • \n
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer.
  • \n
  • Experience coordinating or managing an ICA engineering design delivery team within a design consultancy in a multi‑disciplinary environment.
  • \n
  • Ability to identify innovative design solutions and a broad perspective on design challenges.
  • \n
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience in ICA designs.
  • \n
  • Practical knowledge of water company design codes and standards and industry best practices (e.g., WIMES).
  • \n
  • Awareness of HAZOP, lightning risk assessments, earthing and bonding, lighting design, DSEAR and ATEX installation practices.
  • \n
  • Proficiency with digital analysis software (e.g., Trimble/Amtech) and design tools, following local and national guidance.
  • \n
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
  • \n
  • Experience in the water market is preferred but not required; experience in industrial and process environments is essential.
  • \n
  • Strong communication skills to convey technical concepts within diverse teams.
  • \n
  • Proactive, collaborative mindset to drive teamwork and shared success across projects.
